International Volunteering
Ghana
Friends of Africa established partnerships in Ghana following a monitoring visit in 2019. We are now committed to supporting the SELL Programme in Bolgatango, women’s empowerment projects in the Archdiocese of Kumasi and the Catholic Youth Centre in the Archdiocese of Tamale.
Volunteers in Ghana provide support in the following areas:
Training of trainers and delivery of modules in Gender and Relationships (SELL)
Youth Leadership
Summer Camps (personal and social development)
Tanzania
In 2007 the SMA’s offered an invitation to the FOA to join them on their mission in Tanzania. Since 2008 FOA have been sending volunteers who have worked on tuition programmes for young Maasai boys and girls in the parish of Moita, Bwawanni.
This project proved to be very successful and each year the programme attracted more and more young people looking for the opportunity to improve their formal education. Friends of Africa used this model to run similar camps in Ngudu and Mwandoya.
In 2019 after 11 years of this programme FOA carried out a review of their work in Tanzania. This consultation process helped FOA to build on their work with the SMA mission, while continuing to make a significant positive difference to the lives of the young people FOA work with.
Volunteers in Tanzania work on the following projects:
Tuition programmes during summer break
Youth leadership training (Recife)
Youth work training
South Africa

Youth Leadership training (Recife)
