1. Volunteer programme

Since 1998 FOA have been sending volunteer groups to Tanzania, Zambia, and South Africa. We have established long-standing partnerships with communities in Africa, and continue to support them from home after the 4-week programme has been completed.

2. Fundraising

We fundraise throughout the year with the main events being the annual 4 Peaks Challenge and our Christmas fundraiser. Our fundraising committee work tirelessly all year round to come up with creative and exciting ideas to increase donations to support our partners.

3. Social Injustice

In our endeavours to help create a more just and equal world, we understand the need to show solidarity with those around the globe fighting against injustice. In the last year, FOA have promoted inclusion by establishing partnerships with minority groups in Belfast, joined in protests for climate change, and hosted conversations to better understand the BLM movement.

4. Youth Work

FOA provide the opportunity for our members to enhance their skillset by offering a Level 2 OCN in Youth Work Practice. This accreditation is imperative to the work we do with young people in African communities.

5. Development Education Workshops

Throughout the year we engage in various discussions, exercises, and activities focused on international development. Each of these sessions are facilitated by our Development Officer, or by Comhlamh and other development agencies. Becoming more educated in this field allows all members to gain a deeper understanding and ensure their contribution to projects is more valuable.
